Whey in Large Doses After Exercise Brings Bigger Gains in Muscle and Strength

Whey builds muscleAthletes who consume large doses of whey protein or a leucine-enriched drink directly after training increase their gains in muscle and strength, according to two independent studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

One study from McMaster University in Canada (1) found that recreational athletes who consume 25 grams of whey protein after exercise increased muscle protein synthesis more than when smaller doses are given over time. Another study, performed by U.S. Army researchers and colleagues from other universities (2), found that an essential amino acid drink supplement containing higher concentrations of leucine increases protein synthesis up to 33 percent more than one with lower amounts of leucine.

Eating Fewer Calories on Isagenix for a Longer Life

CoupleFollowers of an Isagenix system complete with Shake Days and Cleanse Days can look forward to possibilities of lifelong health—because of reduced bodyweight, muscle maintenance, and optimal nutrition—and perhaps even a longer life from consistently eating fewer calories.

Since the 1930s when Cornell University researcher Clive McCay reported that a reduction in calories (without undernutrition) extended mammalian lifespan, hundreds of subsequent studies conducted found it could extend lifespan and delay the onset of age-related outcomes in a variety of species.

Research over the past 80 years brings hope that the same results could transfer to humans, although, calorie restriction (CR) studies in humans are lacking. However, there are already exciting results suggesting that CR very well may protect health and extend life.

Fiber Is Key to Preventing Belly Fat and Living Longer

Getting your daily requirements for dietary fiber may be the answer to helping you stay free of belly fat that is linked to chronic disease. Two new studies published this year show a connection between increased soluble fiber intake and less accumulation of belly fat, as well as an association between increased total fiber intake and longer life.

Does Isagenix Use Rennet Suitable for Vegetarians? Answer: Yes

By Isagenix Nutritional Sciences

Traditionally, rennet is animal-derived, extracted from the stomachs of calves. Calves produce rennet to help digest their mothers’ milk proteins. However, non-animal rennet (plant- or microbial-derived) has widely replaced animal rennet in response to increasing demands of groups with certain dietary restrictions.

Isagenix respects the rights of consumers to know if the dairy ingredients such as whey used in our products have been produced with animal or non-animal derived rennet. As is consistent with our high standards of sourcing dairy from New Zealand small family farms that allow their cows to enjoy a quality life on the pasture, the company also sources from producers who use only non-animal, non-GMO rennet.

With summer almost here, you and your family members should have a safe-sun plan in place. Make sure you apply sunscreen daily to exposed areas of the skin. This should be a year-round practice. When you are doing outdoor activities, ensure that all exposed areas are adequately covered with sunscreen. If you plan a day in the sun, you need to reapply sunscreen every two hours and immediately after water activities. Be prepared with protective clothing and seek shade whenever possible. And, don’t forget to take your omega-3 supplement daily!

Whey’s Amino Acid Profile Best for Building Muscle in Older Men

Whey protein stimulates more muscle-building in older men when compared to other proteins because of its superior amino acid profile, according to a new study by researchers from Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands.

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, reveals that in addition to being a “fast” digesting protein, whey also has a preferable ratio of amino acids for protein retention in the muscles.

Safe Weight Loss for Seniors through Diet and Exercise

Diet & ExercisoBy Isagenix Nutritional Sciences

In the United States, the number of obese older adults has reached disturbing heights—now affecting approximately 20 percent of those ages 65 and older—and is only expected to rise as more “baby boomers” become senior citizens.

Weight loss through calorie reduction or exercise are generally good for most people as an intervention in obesity, although the appropriateness of these methods has historically been a matter of controversy in older adults who are overweight.

Vitamin D Improves Endothelial Function in Overweight African Americans

Vitamin D has once again established itself as fundamental for a healthier heart—this time in a study on overweight African American adults who supplemented with vitamin D in the amount of 60,000 IU monthly, which is the equivalent of taking 2,000 IU daily.

Researchers from Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta found supplementating the subjects improved vascular function of endothelial cells. Vascular endothelial cells line the inside of blood vessels and serve to dilate or constrict blood vessels in response to changes in blood flow. When endothelial cells are dysfunctional, the heart must pump harder to improve blood flow through the blood vessels.
